SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The purpose of the Lead is to assist the Value Stream Team Leaders and/or Managers with the daily activities of their shift. They will help assure that their shift is functioning at the highest levels possible and help communicate the daily, weekly, and monthly requirements and expectations of the production Value Streams. The Leader will be involved in most of the aspects of running the operations of the shift they are assigned. They will be involved with safety, communications, training, and development, lean (HPT) high-performance teams, tracking and audits, continuous improvement efforts, and scheduling the flow of products through the area. They will provide valuable feedback to Supervisors and Managers regarding performance of the work stream and the progress of employees within the VS.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Lead, facilitate, and be an active member and supporter of (HPT) High Performance Teams.
Advocate and take an active role in Lean and other Continuous Improvement Projects.
Assign, monitor, delegate assignments, and react to activities throughout the value stream.
Must ensure that Team Improvement boards, Day by Hour boards, etc. are filled out on an hourly/daily basis.
Ensure productivity by fielding questions, ensuring operators are on track, and understanding work assignments.
Must regularly lead Kaizen or other problem-solving events.
Be an active participant in the layered audit process.
Assure all team members are performing and documenting quality checks.
Capable of delegating work assignments, maintaining work boards, and reporting out on activities within the value stream.
Capable and willing to perform jobs within the VS to fill in for operators during meetings or to cover absences.
Advocate for Continuous Improvement.
Serves as a resource and guides team members to achieve VS goals during the shift.
Accountable to VS metrics such as: Safety, Quality, LISC, Scrap, and Schedule Attainment.
Responsible for training, including working with team members to develop and maintain their Skills Matrix.
Facilitate weekly team meetings.

Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities, and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk.
Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.
Prevent excess waste of product and/or components by operating the equipment in an efficient manner.
Maintain production schedules.
Work with groups in initiating and implementing programs such as Lean Other duties may be assigned later.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/ SCOPE:

Report directly to the Value Stream Team Leader

Work closely with Maintenance to resolve issues with the equipment

Education required/ preferred:

High School diploma or GED

Experience:

Production work preferred but not required

Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills
Basic knowledge and use of hand tools
Sound decision-making skills
Good math, reading, and writing skills
Demonstrated mechanical aptitude
Mental and visual acuity for production of quality product
Strong troubleshooting skills

Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office package
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds

2. Standing is required for extended periods of time. Pulling, reaching, and grasping are done on a frequent basis. Carrying, stooping, kneeling, bending, lifting, and lifting overhead are performed on an occasional basis.

3. Requires a high degree of manual dexterity, which could be performed under restrictive conditions.

4. Requires flexible hours and short notice for overtime.
